Deacon Greenfield Turned Potential Into Proof

I’d look at my data, but I didn’t really know what I was looking at...

Deacon Greenfield

At 20 years old, Deacon Greenfield already has over a decade of seat time behind him. From R/C cars at eight, karting at thirteen, and SCCA racing by seventeen, he’s always chased that feeling of refining the craft.

But even with years of experience, Deacon faced the same wall most drivers hit: the gap between knowing what to fix and actually understanding how to fix it.

“I’d look at my data, but I didn’t really know what I was looking at,” he says. “I paid attention to speeds, but that was about it.”

That changed the first time he connected Fire Laps' Driver Development Platform at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

After his very first session, Fire Laps’ AI Coach flagged a braking issue into Turn 6 — a subtle detail most drivers would never catch alone. Deacon tried the suggested adjustment the next time out.

“Immediately, I found time,” he recalls. “Almost four seconds within two sessions. It was wild.”

What clicked wasn’t just a new braking trace. It was a new way to think about development altogether. Instead of trial-and-error over multiple weekends, he had a system that gave him clear, actionable insight right after each session.

The Intelligent Lap Coach in Fire Laps helps drivers develop by showing how to refine acceleration, braking, and steering to cut fractions of a second off their lap time.

Deacon’s progress didn’t stop there. At his home track, Summit Point Raceway, over Labor Day weekend, he and his team secured their first-ever grand slam in their ITS-class MX-5 — pole, lead every lap, and win every race.

They used Fire Laps throughout the weekend to refine small details — braking pressure here, steering input there — trimming tenths until they were running less than a second off the class record.

“It changed how I consume and process my data,” he says. “Now I can look at traces and instantly understand what good trail braking looks like.”

That’s the heart of a Driver Development Platform: it doesn’t just show you what happened. It teaches you how to think like a faster version of yourself.

Beyond showing a new drive line, the Intelligent Lap Coach helps identify specific next steps to improve on a particular turn.

Before Fire Laps, Deacon reviewed data because he knew he should. Afterward, he did it because it actually made sense.

He describes trying the AI Coach’s braking tip as a lightbulb moment. “I didn’t have to waste laps experimenting anymore,” he says. “I could go out and immediately find valuable time.”

That clarity brought more than lap time — it built confidence. And confidence is what separates drivers who stay consistent from those who second-guess every corner.

Deacon’s goal is simple: race and win championships at the professional level. He’s now preparing to compete in SCCA Mazda Spec MX-5, using Fire Laps to get up to speed on new tracks and cars faster than ever.

He calls the Driver Development Platform a cheat code for understanding performance. But in truth, it’s the evolution of what data was always supposed to be: accessible, intelligent, and actionable for anyone who drives.

Deacon’s story isn’t about replacing instinct, it’s about enhancing it. For years, drivers have relied on guesswork, GoPros, and seat time to get better. That still matters. But now, there’s finally a way to connect feel with feedback.

That’s what a Driver Development Platform does. It turns data into direction.

And for Deacon Greenfield, it turned potential into proof.
